A train derails in Seine-Maritime, several dozen injured

Several dozen people were injured in the derailment on Friday September 11 of a TER, which transported 186 passengers, and was providing the Rouen-Caen connection in Seine-Maritime, Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said on X.

A total of 44 people were injured, including a woman evacuated “in absolute emergency”, announced the Rouen prosecutor, Sébastien Gallois. “Screenings” on the train driver turned out to be “all negative”, he said in a press release.

The Rouen judicial police were seized of an investigation “searching for the causes of serious injuries”, according to the prosecutor. The derailment took place between Tourville and Elbeuf-Saint-Aubin, near the town of Cléon.

Activation of the “Orsec many victims” plan

The train derailed around 7:45 p.m., the Seine-Maritime prefecture said in a press release. “The prefect has activated the Orsec numerous victims plan (NOVI)”, adds the prefecture, which recommends avoiding the sector.

“The priority is to take care of travelers and then restore traffic conditions,” SNCF Réseau told AFP.

Interrupted traffic

Traffic on the track “is interrupted, the electricity supply has been cut off to allow emergency services to intervene”, the same source said.

The SNCF and the police are investigating the causes of the accident, added SNCF Réseau.
