Aaron Glenn: Disappointed in myself, but I totally believe we’re on the right track
The Jets fell to 2-5 on Sunday in losing 28-25 at home to a previously winless Dolphins team that took a 21-7 halftime lead, then held on in the second half of the game.
After the game, head coach Aaron Glenn said he was “disappointed in myself most of all” because of how the defense failed to perform in the first half of the game. Glenn calls the plays on that side of the ball and nothing he did worked until the Jets tried to dig themselves out of a hole. They held the Dolphins at bay long enough to cut the lead to four points in the fourth quarter, but then gave up a 63-yard touchdown run and failed to stop Miami on a late fourth down that sealed the team’s road victory.
Glenn pointed to that second half as reason to believe the Jets are moving in the right direction.
“I would say yes. The reason I would say that is because there is no quit in these guys,” Glenn said during his press conference. “I know what the score is, I know that, but I know how I feel about these players and how hard they play. At the end of the second half, it was probably disastrous because of everything that was going on outside. But in that locker room, the guys were ready to go and I think they showed up. I know we’re not where we need to be, but I totally believe we’re on the right track.”
Glenn went on to say that it’s been seven games and the Jets have “a number of games left and that’s the way we’re looking at it.” The truth is that the Jets are now 5-20 since Glenn became their head coach and there is no sign of the kind of consistency and execution needed to build a sustainable winner under his watch. Whether or not a loss to the Dolphins 0-5 becomes the point of no return for his tenure will depend on Jets owner Woody Johnson.
