Al Roker had to abruptly leave “Today” Monday to attend jury duty.
“Well, I left the ‘Today’ show early because I have jury duty,” the weatherman explained while standing outside a New York courthouse in an Instagram video.
“It is everyone’s civic duty to do their duty,” he continued, before laughing and adding: “I said duty twice!”
He captioned his clip: “Hey now!!! Everyone, stand up!! It’s #juryduty time.”
On Monday’s “Today” show, Roker, 72, gave the weather forecast several times before rushing out of Studio 1 at Rockefeller Center and being replaced by Dylan Dreyer.
“We have Dylan replacing Al, who had to leave a little early,” Savannah Guthrie told viewers.
Dreyer, 45, explained: “Yeah, another little switcheroo this morning. »
Roker then missed the third hour of the show he co-hosts with Dreyer and Craig Melvin. Sports journalist Kaylee Hartung replaced him.
“Al had to be gone for just a little while. He’ll be back tomorrow,” Melvin, 47, said of his colleague. “He will come back tomorrow.”
In the morning, Roker posted a video from the gym that showed him on the treadmill, lifting weights and doing a balance exercise.
“Hello, @starttoday_ family. Let’s start the week off right,” Roker captioned his music video, set to the theme song of the ’80s sci-fi series “The A-Team.”
The journalist thanked his coach, José Garcia, for putting him to the test “this morning” before “another busy weather week.”
“Remember, #something is better than nothing. Let’s check the box,” he added.
In July, Roker was involved in a frightening security incident at the “Today” show headquarters.
Page Six confirmed that an intruder, later identified as Andrew Truelove, looking for Roker, broke into the studio and had an 8-10 second interaction with Craig Melvin – during which he called Melvin the N-word – before being arrested.
Truelove was hit with a series of hate crime charges for the trespassing – including hate crime charges, hate crime burglary, hate crime criminal trespass and harassment. His bail was set at $10,000, the Post confirmed.
Additionally, Roker and Melvin obtained protective orders against him.
Following the incident, Melvin took to Instagram to share a statement, assuring his fans that he was “doing great.”
