Alberta voters chose to remain part of Canada, according to early projections of Monday’s referendum, in a decision hailed by political leaders as a victory for Canadian unity.
Preliminary results Tuesday show 76 percent of voters chose to stay in Canada, with about 23 percent voting in favor of launching the legal process required to hold a binding referendum on separation.
