USA Network’s rebuild of a scripted series slate continues with the renewal of Anna Pigeon.

The cable TV channel has purchased a second season of the series, which stars Tracy Spiridakos (Chicago Police) as a national park ranger tasked with solving crimes. The renewal for Anna Pigeonbased on a series of novels by Nevada Barr, arrives two days before the October 9 season finale.

“It’s been really exciting to see audiences fall in love with Anna and come to the park every week,” showrunner Morwyn Brebner said in a statement announcing the renewal. “We are so grateful to our cast and crew who brought Nevada Barr’s iconic world to life with so much heart and passion; we can’t wait to get back out there for season two.”

Produced by Cineflix and Seven24 Films, Anna Pigeon drew decent ratings for the U.S.: its series premiere drew 2.35 million viewers over seven days, making it the best debut for a scripted show in the U.S. since 2018. The show is the No. 1 new scripted drama series on ad-supported cable for the year so far.

“Anna Pigeon connected audiences in a meaningful way, bringing a compelling new heroine and perspective to USA Network,” said Michael Sluchan, senior vice president of scripted content for Versant Entertainment. “We are thrilled to continue Anna’s journey with Tracy, Morwyn (director and executive producer Lea Thompson) and our incredible partners at Cineflix.”

The Versant-owned USA is slowly building a slate of scripted series that hark back to the network’s “blue sky” era of the 2000s and 2010s (under NBCUniversal). With Anna Pigeonthe US has John Grisham’s legal drama The Rainmaker — whose second season premieres Oct. 16 — and the recently commissioned series Diplomatic immunityabout a doctor assigned to the American embassy in Rome.

Brebner (Blue rookie, crew girl) and Thompson executive producer Anna Pigeon with Brett Burlock, Sonia Hosko, Todd Berger, Julie Di Cresce, Tom Cox, Jordy Randall, Peter Emerson and Gordon Gilbertson. Leslie Cowan is producer.
