As midterm elections approach, candidates face off in debates
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is donating $1 million from her campaign to help boost the election bid of Michigan’s Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
The congresswoman, also known by her initials AOC, said Friday at a rally in Pontiac that she “will be transferring from our campaign in New York, $1 million to the state of Michigan to help support all of you. So I’m not talking about it. I’m talking about it.”
The New York Times reported that the congresswoman on Friday transferred $1 million to the Abdul for Michigan Victory Fund, which it described as a joint venture involving El-Sayed’s campaign, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee as well as the Michigan Democratic State Central Committee.
“I don’t wake up on November 4 wishing I could do more to combat the smears against Abdul,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement to the outlet. “I leave everything I can on the field.”
When asked after Friday’s event if this was the first time she had transferred this much funds to a candidate, the congresswoman replied, “Yes,” noting that it is “the first time I have made a transfer of this kind,” adding that it is her first such transfer “also to a Senate candidate.”
The Ocasio-Cortez and El-Sayed campaigns did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment Friday.
El-Sayed is running against former President Donald Trump-backed Republican candidate Mike Rogers.
