Welcome to Australia and its wide open spaces, where a fishing trip sometimes means meeting a crocodile. Fortunately, this one didn’t go off the rails.

Victory went to the “determined fisherman” who, fortunately, never risked losing a limb or being pulled from the shore by the crocodile, but almost had her fish stolen.

Some less determined than Tyla Cloughessy, who is a physiotherapist when not doing outdoor influencing activities, are said to have dropped the fishing rod and let the large reptile take the fish.

She didn’t do that. Instead, she retracted her grip as quickly as she could while backing away from the crocodile in her fangs. The close call ended in his favor. The crocodile retreated into the water and she was able to keep her fish.

It’s the unexpected magic of being in nature. Kudos to whoever was working the camera for staying calm and focusing on capturing the moment. You wouldn’t want to have a shaky camera on a moment like that.

The crocodile will have to go back, review what happened and make adjustments. Tyla won this round and managed to capture the victory pose with her hold, that’s what it’s all about.

But she better believe there’s always a chance for another crocodile encounter. She can’t let her guard down and become complacent.

Expecting her to always walk away with her fish is exactly how she will end up losing one. I would suggest a few extra reps, some backpedaling, and some time spent working on the speed reeling.

This will keep him one step ahead. But she doesn’t need my advice. She knows what she’s doing when it comes to the outdoors.
