World of Warcraft’s new housing system has provided a segment of the player base with things to do, collect, and craft beyond the typical raid game loop, but it’s already becoming glaring for its monetization layers.

World of Warcraft’s Housing game feature has acquired decorative items to sell for real money, which is not a first.

The new bundles are called Haunted Grimtide Estate for $25 on Battle.net and the Grimtide Decoration Pack for $10 on Battle.net. However, selling items linked to a themed playable race is indeed a first.

The items in these bundles are spooky furniture and decorations themed around the Kul Tiran player race, as these items have a pirate and Lovecraftian aesthetic. However, players are unhappy with this arrangement, due to Blizzard’s previous promises regarding its microtransaction practices for housing.

The decoration of @Wowhead Kul Tiran’s housing in the store directly contradicts Blizzard’s housing principles from less than a year ago. That was literally principle #2. https://t.co/UOkELnupW3October 27, 2026

X users and even famous content creators like @BellularGaming responded to this, pointing out that Blizzard Entertainment is contradicting itself, reminding us that the company has sworn to never sell housing decorations related to player races for real money.

The promise in question comes from a developer blog post published by Blizzard on November 6, 2025, in which it says, and I quote: “Housing items related to the core fantasies of a player’s race or class, or that already exist in Azeroth, will not be sold in the store.. Important themed settings that players know and love will also not appear in the store. »

We have reached out to Blizzard for further comment on this situation.

We finally got a player’s house after two decades, but at what cost?

Housing was one of the most requested gaming features since the 2000s, as players wanted a place for their characters and guilds to live.

Unfortunately, while Housing’s gameplay was good, it was marred by controversial cosmetic DLC items that cost as much as an expansion. Add to that this betrayal of trust on Blizzard’s part, and much of the hype and goodwill surrounding this long-awaited feature has been sucked out, much like the rest of this expansion.

So far, the vast majority of playable races in WoW don’t have exterior decoration options, some don’t even have interior decoration options in abundance. Obtaining items can be an absolutely monstrous task, and unlike other similar games with housing systems like Fallout 76, you have to purchase each piece individually, which limits creativity.

Personally, World of Warcraft: Midnight has been a non-stop disappointment with its weak storyline, Horde dishonor, constant bugs, and rushed content, which only adds salt to the wound.

Let’s hope at least that prices drop on these cosmetics and that the next expansion, World of Warcraft: The Last Titan, as well as World of Warcraft: Forever, prove to be much better experiences.
