HOWELL, Mich. — Vice President JD Vance called Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed a “psychopath” during a trip to Michigan on Tuesday – saying the left-wing candidate was “ashamed” of the state, pushed “anti-white racial hatred” and would likely kill the local auto industry.

Vance used his high-profile visit to make the case to voters that El-Sayed was an unacceptable radical — when polls show him virtually tied with or leading Republican Mike Rogers with a week to go before Election Day.

“Abdul El-Sayed is a little bit of a psychopath, and we’re just going to try to make our argument the best we can and help Mike out a little bit,” Vance said before boarding Air Force Two en route to a rally attended by several hundred people outside Detroit.

El-Sayed has “engaged in the kind of explicitly anti-white racial hatred” perhaps “more than any Democratic candidate in the country,” the vice president thundered, calling the candidate “a guy who seems to enjoy peddling racial hatred.”

Vance did not provide details about his allegation that El-Sayed was racist, but Republicans took aim at the candidate’s support for diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies, including health care, government contracts and aid to minority-led businesses.

Upon arriving in Michigan, Vance told a cheering crowd that El-Sayed was an extremist.

If the recent riots in France spread to Detroit, El-Sayed would be “there and cheering them on,” he said.

“Abdul El-Sayed was born just north of Detroit, in a town called Rochester Hills. Yet he claims to be, and I quote, ‘an immigrant from North Africa’. For decades, he went even further. He told people he was an Egyptian citizen,” the vice president said.

“Why? Why would you tell people that you’re not from the community that you actually come from? That’s an insane statement to make… (This is) a man who would lie, who is so ashamed of this state that he would lie and say he’s an immigrant from another continent.”

Vance added that El-Sayed “says he wants to pass the new green scam and kill this state’s auto industry” and that he “campaigned with his best friend Hassan Piker, a man who said we deserved 9/11.”

The attacks come as El-Sayed leads Rogers by 2.5 percentage points, according to the average of recent RealClearPolitics polls.

Vance brushed off former Fox News host Tucker Carlson’s vehement opposition to Rogers, a hawkish former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, calling the Republican “fundamentally an honest guy and the kind of public servant you want in Washington, D.C..”

He also did not embrace President Trump’s characterization of El-Sayed, who is Muslim, as a “jihadist,” saying instead, “I don’t know what’s in this guy’s heart.” I just know he has a lot of weird friends. »

El-Sayed’s campaign did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.
