Comments Off on Blumhouse Atomic Monster reveals new studio name after merger

Two years after their merger, Jason Blum’s Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster will now call their combined entity Blumhouse Atomic.

The producers of Obsession, Backstage and the Conjuring the franchise will continue as separate production labels with their own creative teams leading the film and television projects under each label.

Since the merger, Blumhouse Atomic has collectively generated more than $2.5 billion at the global box office against combined production budgets of less than $330 million, including more than $1 billion at the global box office in 2025 and 2026. This year’s films have grossed nearly $1.3 billion on less than $70 million in production budgets. These hits include Curry Barker’s Obsession and Kane Parsons Behind the sceneswhich respectively became the highest-grossing films for their distributors, Focus Features and A24.

“When we merged our companies, we believed the whole would be greater than the sum of its parts, and that’s exactly what happened,” said Jason Blum, co-founder of Blumhouse Atomic. “Blumhouse Atomic is a natural evolution of what we have built together. The Conjuring franchise, Insidious, Sawno filmmaker has created more horror franchises than James Wan, and together we’ve brought together some of the genre’s most recognizable properties under one roof. Bring Saw returning to James, with a new chapter on the way, is a perfect example of what we can do together. We have the product of a studio with the creative freedom and financial discipline of an independent company, and more opportunities than ever to take these stories beyond theater and onto television, into games and into live experiences. »

“The future of horror comes from new voices, and Blumhouse Atomic gives us more ways to find them and support them for the long term,” said James Wan, co-founder of Blumhouse Atomic. “I started with a small film and people were willing to take a chance, so creating these opportunities for others is personal to me. Working with filmmakers like Kane Parsons, Curry Barker, Josh Giuliano and Dylan Clark is a big part of that. We want to give them the freedom to create something distinctive and build relationships that last beyond a film.”

As previously reported, Blumhouse Atomic has hired Shudder’s Sam Zimmerman as senior vice president of development and acquisitions to discover new filmmakers and make films with budgets under $5 million. He was instrumental in Universal buying River from IFC for over $10 million at TIFF after working with this picture’s filmmaker, Joshua Guiliano. Blumhouse Atomic also signed an initial deal with Divide/Conquer in late 2025 to develop high-profile, profitable genre films. During the Blumhouse Atomic union, the production company obtained the rights to Saw last year, reuniting Wan with the horror series he co-created with Leigh Whannell. Lionsgate retains its existing ownership and distribution rights, while Content Partners and Mark Burg hold stakes in the existing film library. Blum and Wan are also working on new installments of Paranormal activity And Blair Witch.

The company’s 2027 slate of original titles and franchises includes River, The Revenge of La Llorona, The Exorcist: Martyrs, Everything but ghosts, Paranormal activity, Moles, Blair Witch, Pajama party And Seasons.

Among Blumhouse Atomic’s television series are those from the United States The rainmakerPrime Video Scarpette and Netflix is the Worst ever franchise. There is also the game Funeral seasons, Paranormal activity on Broadway and franchise collaborations at Universal Halloween Horror Nights.
