“Our hearts ache for the family and friends of Kaden and Jackson,” Rohrich said in a Facebook post Wednesday evening. “We are very proud of our team’s efforts to find them before the storm that is coming this weekend.”
Kaden Matsuda, 19, of Ridgway, and Jackson Donlon, 20, of New York, reportedly left Colorado Mountain College’s Leadville campus Friday to plan a hike on Ice Mountain in far north Chaffee County.
Deputies said hikers planning this hike will drive near Winfield (County Road 390) and access the Huron Peak trailhead. Officers went to the trailhead Monday and found Matsuda’s vehicle, according to a news release.
Friends who spoke with the deputies said both planned to return from the hike Saturday if they felt unsafe, but if they felt confident hiking they would return Sunday.
