MAGA candidate’s Sick Attack ad takes a new turn
The change came after a poll found that Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad had the opposite effect on voters.

Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign has abandoned the widely condemned attack ad featuring his Democratic opponent’s estranged mother, after spending only a quarter of what it had announced.
In the ad, Amy Acton’s mother, Donna Arthur, accuses her of being a “liar” regarding her claims of a troubled childhood – an accusation that brought to light Acton’s alleged rape by her stepfather, who Arthur defended instead of his own daughter. Arthur then loses custody of Acton and his brother. The two women have not spoken since.
Ramaswamy, 41, suggested Thursday that the shutdown was part of the plan.
Trump defended Ramaswamy’s controversial ad, as did Vance.
“That ended and we put out four more ads,” the Trump-backed Ohio gubernatorial candidate said during a campaign stop in Vandalia, reported The Columbus Dispatch, whose editorial board condemned the “sinister” ad and endorsed Acton last week.
A Ramaswamy campaign official also told the Washington Post: “It played out like any commercial. »

The Republican campaign spent about $1 million to air two versions of the ad Thursday, according to AdImpact data reviewed by the Post. Yet his campaign initially said it would pay $4 million to air the 60-second spot across Ohio.

Ramaswamy’s campaign did not immediately respond to a Daily Beast inquiry about whether its original plan was to not run the ad in the final days before the election, as it suggested, or whether the ad was ending in response to something else, such as a bad poll.
An internal GOP poll found that the ad did not have the desired effect with voters, Axios reported Wednesday. In it, Acton led by 8 points, while a poll commissioned by the same Republican group before the ad gave him only 2 points.
A corresponding memo said the ad “has a significant effect on the gubernatorial race.” Among those familiar with the ad, twice as many said it made them more likely to vote for Acton than Ramaswamy.
Meanwhile, a Marist poll from last Tuesday showed Acton up 7 points.
During the first wave of backlash, which even came from Trump-backed Ohio Senate candidate Jon Husted and Republican Gov. Mike DeWine, the president and JD Vance defended the ad. Trump, for example, has shown no interest in Acton’s account of his abuse, preferring to focus solely on the words of his mother, a Republican donor whose sanity is in question.
Vance, when asked if the ad was “appropriate,” said “that wasn’t really my concern.”
“I have to admit I’m a little disgusted when I see Republicans across the country complaining more about this ad than about what Congressional Democrats and other Democrats want to do to the United States of America,” he added.
In response to the ad, Acton, 60, hit back by showing his brother, Phil Stearns, talking about their upbringing.
“I got a lot of abuse, but Amy always got the worst,” Stearns says. “She continued to endure this abuse because she knew she had to protect me from this, and if she hadn’t, who knows where I would have ended up.”
Stearns continues: “She was 11 and 12, and to think that this is somehow a talking point – shame on Vivek. The contempt he has for Amy is the contempt he has for Ohio. He’s not fit to lead.”
Acton spoke about his GOP rival Monday during an appearance on Morning Joe.
“You know, it’s a time of cruelty and distraction,” she said. “I had a rough childhood, but it didn’t weaken me. You know, my opponent’s PAC is called Victors Not Victims. My opponent literally featured in one of his ads a known pedophile who was imprisoned for eight years recently and made no positive statements about the Epstein files.”
