Cornell ‘gang rape’ case: Southeast Michigan man among 7 charged in alleged assault

DETROIT – A southeast Michigan man is among seven Cornell University fraternity members accused of sexually assaulting a female student in 2024.

The lawsuit, filed September 16 in Tompkins County, New York, names Scott Kretzchmar and six other students. Kretzchmar is from southeast Michigan and attended high school in St. Clair County, multiple sources confirm to Local 4.

The suit alleges that Kretzchmar and six other members of the Xi chapter of the Chi Phi fraternity forced a woman to use drugs and sexually assaulted her for several hours on the night of October 19, 2024, and into the morning of October 20, 2024.

This case had a ripple effect among several agencies in Macomb County. Local 4 investigators have contacted these agencies seeking statements, including the city of Sterling Heights, which said Tuesday that the city “does not and has never employed an individual by the name of Scott Kretzschmar.”

Additionally, Local 4 has contacted Kretzchmar’s attorneys and we are awaiting a response.
