EXCLUSIVE: After breathing new life into Predator franchise in the 20th century, Dan Trachtenberg and Disney found another property to put a new spin on. Sources tell Deadline that Prey The director will realize an original idea inspired by the classic Disney tale Sleeping Beauty. The untitled project is in its early stages and is expected to take the story in a whole new direction with Trachtenberg’s distinct sensibility.
Although plot details are being kept under wraps, insiders claim this version has no connection to the plot. Evil movies with Angelina Jolie. Trachtenberg and Rayna McClendon imagined the new story, while Alex Anfanger and Dan Schimpf wrote the screenplay.
Trachtenberg and his longtime producing partner Ben Rosenblatt will produce, as will Star Wars producer Michelle Rejwan. Jessica Virtue, vice president of production, is overseeing the project with creative director Alina Mota, reporting to Disney Live Action president Daria Cercek.
Trachtenberg and Disney maintain close ties after helping to successfully relaunch the Predator franchise with 2022 Preywhich was a hit on Hulu, received critical acclaim and landed an Emmy nomination for Best TV Movie. He followed it up with last year’s Predator: Badlands and animated photo Predator: killer of killers for Hulu, which has a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Trachtenberg’s three Predator pictures are the franchise’s highest-rated on Rotten Tomatoes.
He is currently in pre-production on a top-secret picture at Paramount.
Anfanger and Schimpf are co-creators of the Comedy Central series Big time in Hollywood, Florida.
Trachtenberg is repped by CAA, Untitled Entertainment and Johnson Shapiro Slewett and Kole. Anfanger and Schimpf are replaced by Mosaic, CAA and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis.
