Timing may not have been on Dax Shepard’s side when he tried to shoot Kate Hudson, but that didn’t stop him from trying.
During a Wednesday, Oct. 28, episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast, the “CHiPs” actor, 51, recalled her first meeting with the “Running Point” star, 47, while she was still married to Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson. Shepard and Hudson then dated for three months in 2007.
“I was at his house one night playing poker, and she came over to play, and she was still with Chris,” Dax told his guests, Sara and Erin Foster. “I gave him 111% of all my charms, didn’t I?”
He said he remembers leaving and feeling proud of his acting: “Well, it’s the best job anyone can do. I mean, she’s married, who cares?” He described his flirting as “a great first appearance.”
His crush on the “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days” actress hasn’t faded. After she and Robinson split in 2007, she reunited with him at a dinner in Malibu, California, where Shepard tried to see if he could “gather that magic and start it again.”
“I went there, and she was there, and she’s single now,” he said. “And then I started again. And then from that night on, we were together every day.”

Sara, who was friends with both actors, shared: “You two got serious quickly. And you were always in beanies.”
Shepard responded, saying he and Hudson would kiss “all day.”
“I remember thinking, ‘Kate, this is crazy. She’s like my best friend!'” Sara Foster told Shepard. “And I remember you and her were kind of like, ‘What?’ She said to me, ‘You don’t know him very well.'”
A surprised Shepard replied, “Oh my God, I didn’t even know all that happened.”
As of 2021, Hudson is engaged to musician Danny Fujikawa, whom she began dating in 2016. The “Song Sung Blue” actress has three children — sons Ryder, 22, and Bingham, 15, and daughter Rani, 8 — from her relationships with Robinson, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy, and Fujikawa, respectively.
Shepard is married to “Nobody Wants This” star Kristen Bell, with whom he shares two daughters, Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11.
