Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley has no plans to bench quarterback Malik Willis
The 0-5 Dolphins enter their bye week looking for answers. One of them won’t bench the starting quarterback.
Coach Jeff Hafley was asked by reporters on Monday if he considered moving from Malik Willis to Kyle McCord in Week 7.
“No,” Hafley said.
We asked him for his opinion on this subject.
“We’ve played five games and Malik is our quarterback,” Hafley said.
“(A)Regarding Malik’s questions, again, I totally respect all the questions and I understand that everyone has a job to do, so good question,” Hafley said. “We have to be better. Malik has to be better, okay? And that’s not the title. The title is we all have to be better, and I really mean that. I thought yesterday, for the first time, we ran the ball really well and we moved it. We ran for 200 yards against a really good team. But everything in the passing game has to be better, right? It’s the receivers, it’s the tight ends, it’s the protection. It’s all got to come together and all that. And it’s the quarterback, it’s the coaches, it’s the offensive line, it’s the running backs, it’s the tight ends that we all need to be more effective at and we’re going to work on that, I have confidence in the coaches, I have confidence in the players that we have.
In five games as Miami’s starter, Willis completed 73 of 130 passes for 849 yards, with two touchdowns and four interceptions. His passer rating is 68.4, which places him last among the 29 qualifiers.
