Donald Trump affirmed, Monday August 24, that cars produced in Canada will be taxed at 50% from August 1er January 2027. “Customs duties on all cars, trucks, large and small, auto parts and steel will be increased to 50%”wrote the American president on his network, Truth Social.

“Canada has been ripping off the United States of America for years. At the end of last week, despite intense negotiations, Donald Trump announced the implementation of new customs duties of 50% on several Canadian products, from honey to essential oils, including dairy products, cement and even hockey sticks. These new taxes concern some 28 billion Canadian dollars (around 17 billion euros) of goods, or nearly 5% of annual Canadian exports to the United States.

Mark Carney, the Canadian Prime Minister, reacted on August 22, using the word ” war “ in order to describe the commercial relationship maintained with its American neighbor. “When you are attacked, you are at war. We were attacked. »
