During their incident at SoFi Stadium, Troy Aikman’s stance toward Joe Buck was, “You screwed me!”

The 25-year partnership between Joe Buck and Troy Aikman is coming to an end, and more details have been revealed regarding last week’s tipping point at SoFi Stadium.

Dylan Byers Puck add a little color to the previous report reporting tensions between Monday Night Football broadcaster team.

“There were weeks where Troy became increasingly cold, difficult, short and commentative,” a source with direct knowledge of the situation told Byers. “Joe finally snapped,” the source told Byers, referring to the Week 5 incident during the Bills-Rams game. “He basically said, ‘Man, are we really going to do this?’ And Troy’s position was: you fucked me up!

Another anonymous source told Byers, “They exchanged very direct and honest feelings.”

Byers, who says he spoke to more than a dozen sources, writes that Aikman “felt like a lot people had fucked him.

This was for Buck to strike a deal on his extension, with the understanding that he could have a new partner in 2027. But Aikman had also tried to strike his own deal; According to Byers, one of Aikman’s agents pegged his value at $30 million a year, a huge jump from his current rate of $18 million.

Aikman “saw it as the ultimate act of betrayal,” an anonymous source told Byers. “They made this deal in May and put it in a drawer. ESPN didn’t tell him, Joe didn’t tell him.”

In the end, it’s every man for himself. Aikman asked too much. Buck made a more realistic request. If it had been the other way around, Aikman would have closed his deal and Buck would be waiting for an offer that, at this point, may never come.

Byers reports that on the most recent Monday evening in Santa Clara, Buck apologized to Aikman and the entire production team for losing his temper. Buck’s message was, according to Byers: “We’re all adults, we all have a job to do, let’s move forward, have a great year.” » Aikman would not have added anything after Buck had said what he had to say.

All of this is strange, if not unprecedented, to say the least. At this point, it looks like Aikman will be leaving, probably for CBS or Prime Video. And Buck, armed with his new contract, will stick around.

Through it all, they will work together for the remainder of a season that will culminate with ESPN’s first Super Bowl.

As ESPN does its best to relentlessly hype the Feb. 14 event, the Aikman-Buck situation becomes a potential distraction. Or maybe it adds a little extra spice, given the possibility that their tenuous relationship could lead to an on-air incident at some point between now and the final game of the 2026 season.
