EXCLUSIVE: Start these engines because the Fast and Furious the franchise is coming to television.

Deadline understands that Peacock has given the green light to its first TV series based on the hit film franchise, which has grossed more than $7 billion at the global box office over the past 25 years.

The series comes from Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman, who will write and serve as co-showrunners.

The project was one of several announced at NBCUniversal’s May Upfront event in New York by franchise star Vin Diesel, who will executive produce the series.

“As you all know, these films are very valuable to us, but over the last decade we realized that the fans wanted more, they wanted us to expand on the legacy characters, their stories,” he told Upfront. “And over the last decade, we’ve wanted to get into the television space.”

Diesel said the idea came to him after Universal Studios head Donna Langley also took over oversight of NBCUniversal’s television operations last year.

“That’s when I knew that the integrity of the characters, the international appeal, the thing that makes us all feel like family, would be protected in the TV space,” he said.

The series, from Universal Television, is expected to premiere in 2028. Daniels and Coleman will serve as executive producers alongside Sam Vincent of Diesel and One Race, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, as well as Jeff Kirschenbaum and Chris Morgan.

Fast foreverthe 11th and final film in the franchise, is scheduled to be released on March 17, 2028.

Daniels most recently served as executive producer for Peacock’s PONYand worked on series including Shades of Blue, Sons of Anarchy and the next NBC The Rockford Files restart. Coleman has executive produced series including 9-1-1: Lone Star and also worked on Shades of blue.

At the Upfronts, Diesel announced that there were three more projects in the Fast & Furious series in the works; we just came from The end of the game Nick Wooton and Dragon House Charmaine DeGraté, and the others come from Griselda showrunner Ingrid Escajeda and Lucifer showrunner Joe Henderson.

This all comes as NBCUniversal celebrates the 25thth anniversary of the franchise, which began with The Fast and the Furious in 2001 and starred Diesel as Dominic Toretto, Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner, Jordana Brewster as Mia, and Michelle Rodriguez as Letty.
