
Floods in Nepal: many of those swept away are not officially dead, leaving families in uncertainty
Even when bodies are found, identifying their identities remains a slow and difficult task. More than 1,400 bodies have been found so far, and Nepal has little experience processing DNA on such a scale. In some cases, authorities took DNA samples and then buried the bodies with markers in the ground, if the families requested them.
