Florida school bus crash kills two, including 10th grader
A school bus crash in central Florida killed two people Monday, including a 10th grader, deputies said.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 6:15 a.m. in Winter Haven when the bus, heading east on Old Lucerne Park Road, was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu that was heading west.
“Two people were killed: a 10th grade girl and an occupant of one of the other vehicles,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
Deputies said the crash caused the bus to lose control and blow out its tire, then crashed head-on with a Jeep, causing it to overturn.

Three other vehicles were involved in the accident.
Deputies said the student who died was on the bus and the second person was in the Jeep. Their identities have not been released.
The bus was carrying 39 people, including 37 high school students, who were headed to Winter Haven High School.
Deputies said the other two people were identified as the bus driver and their 9-year-old daughter.
Due to the accident, Lucerne Park Road was closed in both directions. Drivers are advised to take alternative routes.
