Google parent company Alphabet has launched Gemini 4 Argon, a new AI model designed to handle various tasks such as coding, research and writing. But it’s cybersecurity where Gemini 4 Argon is supposed to have a special talent, according to Google.

Argon is only deployed to a select group of the company’s cyber partners through its Fairwind program, Google’s security initiative. The model was specifically trained for defensive cyberworking, and the company claims it can “autonomously find, validate, and remediate critical software vulnerabilities.”

Argon is also said to be good at coding and engineering, with the company noting that its own staff already use the model for their daily work, including debugging and code base migrations. Google also touts Argon’s ability to analyze visuals, whether it’s analyzing the content of long videos or graphics.

“Designed to support deep reasoning within complex, long-term workflows, Argon fundamentally changes the way we work and build at Google,” the company said in a blog post Wednesday.

The best AI labs have rushed to launch increasingly powerful models, trying to outdo each other even as these same companies warn that AI could spiral out of control. Not long ago, OpenAI released Astra, which it hailed as its best model to date. Earlier this year, Anthropic’s Fable was also released with similar rhetoric from the company.

Companies have done their best to market their services as superior to those of their competitors. In its blog, Google claims that Argon performed significantly better than OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra and Anthropic’s Fable and Opus on a variety of AI tests. He cites Vals – an increasingly popular AI benchmarking startup – to show that Argon is currently the leading model on the company’s AI model index.

Once considered “late” in the AI race, Google has recently seen success with Gemini. The company announced in August that its app had more than 1 billion monthly users, a figure that makes it competitive with OpenAI, which also recently announced that ChatGPT had reached 1 billion monthly users.
