ATLANTA — Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced he is declaring a state of emergency and suspending the state’s gas tax for 30 days.
Governor Kemp said the gas tax suspension would go into effect at 12:01 a.m. on September 29 and continue through October 29.
The current average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Georgia is $4.19 and $6.24 for a gallon of diesel, officials said.
“Over the past several years, with the help of our partners in the General Assembly, we have been able to provide billions of dollars in aid to hardworking Georgians. » » said Governor Kemp. “We have remained committed to helping them and our small businesses through difficult times, and that is why I am taking this action today to provide additional relief.”
The current fuel excise tax is 33.3 cents per gallon for gasoline and 37.3 cents per gallon for diesel, according to officials.
“Families, businesses and farmers across our state are feeling the strain of skyrocketing costs at the pump,” said House Speaker Jon Burns. “That’s why the Chamber is proud to stand with Governor Kemp to take action and provide direct assistance to hard-working families and job creators, when and where they need it most.”
Governor Kemp also suspended Georgia’s gas tax earlier this year.
