GTA 6 will not include its own parody of one of Florida’s most iconic locations: Walt Disney World. I love everything about Disney, including the parks. But I also appreciate Rockstar’s penchant for sarcasm and mockery. What about Disney World? There is something to laugh about. So I’m a little disappointed that Walt Disney World – or whatever Rockstar would call its simulacrum – won’t appear in GTA 6.
Game Informer asked Rockstar if the Central Florida region, including Orlando and its tourist destinations like Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, would be represented in GTA 6 in some form, and Jack McPherson said no. However, McPherson emphasized that GTA 6 will offer “the complete Florida experience” in many other ways.
“We have to constantly evaluate the diversity of landscapes, cities, structures, landmarks, vistas, plant species, rock formations and everything else before working with design and storytelling to distill a list that best works with and meets the needs of the game. So while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is designed to deliver that complete Florida experience!”
GTA 6 also won’t feature SeaWorld or Florida’s iconic “Space Coast,” with the historic Cape Canaveral launch pad.
However, I’m not too surprised by all of this, considering that GTA 6 takes place in Vice City, a stand-in for Miami, which is a four-hour, 230-mile drive from Orlando. I know GTA 6 will be a big game – with the largest game map Rockstar has ever created – but I didn’t expect the map to stretch all the way to Orlando.
Jay Klaitz, who played Lester in Grand Theft Auto 5, previously said in an interview that he wondered if Rockstar would create its own legally separate version of Disney World that could be called “Psycho Park.”
“It would also be interesting if they looked at that environment,” he said.
While GTA 6 may not feature its own take on Disney World, it’s possible that the park will be referenced in GTA 6 radio talk, and some parodies could make it happen. The well runs deep for things Rockstar can mock Disney World for, including ever-increasing ticket prices, the cost of buying literally anything in the parks, and the so-called Disney Adult phenomenon, to name just a few options. I love Disney, but even the most die-hard fans have their problems.
It turns out that the last game in the series, GTA 5, was set where Disneyland – the OG Disney park – is located in the Los Angeles area, and that game also didn’t feature its own parody of a theme park that players could visit. However, GTA 5 featured a film production company known as Fred’s Pictures, which was an obvious reference to Disney.
GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
