GTA 6’s new age rating confirms the game will feature sex scenes
GTA 6 will feature sex scenes, according to a new list from international ratings boards.
In New Zealand and Australia, the store page for GTA 6 on PlayStation has been updated to include the game’s official age rating. A similar thing happened this morning with the UK and US versions of the game, but the New Zealand and Australian versions offer a distinct difference: the mention of sex scenes. Yes, it’s true: there will be sex in GTA 6.
If you’re wondering, “Is it different from GTA 5?” Currently, it’s a bit unclear. The brief description of the GTA 5 review on the store page makes no mention of sex scenes, although there is at least one. Midway through the game, Trevor can be seen getting weird with Johnny Klebitz’s girlfriend (okay, that’s pretty brief). Instead, the notes description simply states “Gender.”
It’s unclear whether the ratings boards have evolved their language since GTA 5’s release nearly a decade ago, or whether GTA 6 will feature more scripted and detailed sex scenes, more comparable to a movie or TV show. It’s also possible that the more general and less specific description of GTA 5 more clearly refers to the ability to pick up sex workers and have sex with them. Rating boards may view these gameplay moments differently from the heavily obscured sex scenes shown in cutscenes.
GTA 6’s sex scenes could be a lot more focused and graphic, especially since the story revolves around the romantic relationship between Jason and Lucia. Various trailers have shown sensual and intimate scenes between the two characters, so it’s possible that the full game will contain some pretty spicy material. Ultimately, all we can do is speculate until we get detailed details about the specific content that led to this note, which will surely follow in the coming weeks.
Ultimately, it looks like Rockstar isn’t pulling any punches with GTA 6. Rating descriptions mention blood and gore, intense violence, drug use and much more, so it looks like we’re in for another edgy GTA game. The developer has managed to keep a lot of things under wraps, but recently revealed that he visited strip clubs in Florida for “research purposes.”
We’re officially only a month away from the GTA 6 release date, so there’s sure to be plenty more marketing beats in the coming weeks. Whether this will bring a new trailer or other forms of marketing remains to be seen, but Rockstar shelled out big bucks for an ad atop the Miami Heat’s arena in Florida and began placing ads in New York starting today.
Editor’s Note: Added clarity and context around the original note and sexual content in GTA 5.
