Halle Berry’s Daughter Nahla Set to Testify in Her Mother’s Abuse Case
Halle Berry’s daughter is expected to testify in the ongoing domestic violence restraining order case between the actress and her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.
Berry, 60, appeared to have red, watery eyes when the courtroom reopened Monday afternoon after 13-year-old Maceo’s nearly four-hour testimony.
Berry and Martinez, 60, will testify in Los Angeles County Superior Court in the case. Berry’s 18-year-old daughter Nahla, whom she shares with model Gabriel Aubry, 50, was also listed as a potential witness.
If Nahla testifies, it will take place virtually as she is currently in school.
In a previous court declaration obtained by Page Six, Nahla wrote that she never saw her mother “hit, slap, choke, grab or physically abuse Maceo in any way.”
“I never saw my mother place her hands around Maceo’s neck, strangle him, restrict his breathing or engage in any behavior remotely resembling the allegations that were made against her,” she added.
Other potential witnesses could include Berry’s fiancé Van Hunt, staff members from Maceo’s school and other therapists and medical professionals.
Berry’s attorney cited the minor’s “propensity for dishonesty” as a reason for calling certain witnesses.
The courtroom will be closed during any testimony involving Maceo or “sensitive medical matters.”
When Judge Shelley Kaufman asked whether both parties’ statements were accepted, Martinez’s legal team claimed Berry’s was “riddled with hearsay” and asked that it not be entered into evidence.
Berry’s attorneys argued the statements were not hearsay, but explained why Martinez filed a request for a “frivolous and baseless” domestic violence restraining order and how his intention was to circumvent court orders.
In a court filing earlier this month, Martinez accused Berry of becoming violent with their son during a Sept. 26 incident. Martinez claimed Berry told their son he was “such an idiot” for playing games on a virtual reality headset.
“She grabbed Maceo by the neck and started choking him while screaming, ‘Who’s dominant now?! Who’s dominant?!'” Martinez alleged in the documents.
Berry denied the allegations through his lawyer at the time, calling them “totally baseless and deliberately misleading.”
In addition to the restraining orders against him and his son, Martinez is seeking sole custody of Maceo. Berry is seeking sole legal custody and wants the court to restore her power over major decisions in the teen’s life.
Despite the earlier emotions on Monday, Berry left the court smiling, while Martinez walked out without recognizing his ex.
The hearing will resume at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.
