How ‘Chicago Fire’ Star Dermot Mulroney Leaves the Show
The following reveals tonight’s major plot points Chicago Fire Season 15 premiere.
NBC Chicago Fire returned tonight with the fifteenth season premiere, picking up after an intense season 14 finale that left most of the best of 51 with their lives on the line. While the team survived mostly unscathed, the series looks different as showrunner Victor Teran takes the helm.
At the end of July, we confirmed the news that Dermot Mulroney would be leaving the hit series after two seasons in the role of Battalion Chief Dominic “Dom” Pascal. Even though the arrival of Dom was a bit difficult for 51, the evolution of the character really won the hearts of fans and the characters of the series.
I can confirm that Mulroney’s latest episode was tonight’s premiere, however, the creators and writers of the show like to surprise us every now and then with guest appearances from time to time. As Eamonn Walker, who played Wallace Boden in the first 12 seasons of the series, made an appearance in season 13.
Teran recently spoke to Deadline about the new season and his farewell to Mulroney.
“We only have one episode with him that I’m sad to report. It’s only the first. But he plays a very critical role. We had a very difficult task when Boden left. Filling his shoes was going to be an impossible task. Dermot came in and did this incredible job, and built a bridge to what the future will be,” Teran shared.
He continued, “For the first time in 15 seasons, there won’t be a boss in the house. Severide (Taylor Kinney) is really going to run things, and that’s a new thing. We’ve been thinking about it for a while, and so we had to shut Dermot down to make room for that.”
In the season 15 premiere, it was also confirmed that Severide chose the position of Chief of Firehouse 51 over the also-offered inspector position. However, he continues to wear his fire inspector hat, albeit in private, while trying to help Joe (Joe Minoso) prove his innocence following accusations that he played a role in the season 14 finale fire. In Dom’s final moments on the show, he gives Severide advice to tread lightly between his two passions or risk facing major consequences.
Following the announcement of Mulroney’s departure Chicago Firehe shared a statement.
“I loved every minute of it. I became friends with this incredible team of people,” Mulroney said at a fan convention.
Mulroney also acknowledged the “incredible actors” he worked with and noted that they gave him “incredibly difficult scenes” throughout his time on the show.
Additionally, the actor said “they wrote the character off,” adding, “We gave it our all for two seasons.”
Mulroney was also a regular on the Netflix drama series The Hunting Wivesplaying Jed Banks. Mulroney revealed in May that production on the show’s second season had wrapped, and yesterday, The Hunting Wives was renewed for a third season yesterday ahead of the season 2 premiere. It also recently landed roles in two films: People of the Moon and the action photo The streets.
