IKEA and XBOX team up on YXSTABY, a new collection designed for playing at home
IKEA and XBOX have teamed up to launch a new gaming-inspired collection, YXSTABY, designed for playing at home. Whether cooped up or lounging, at play or on the couch, the collection leaves room for play anywhere without sacrificing functionality, comfort or style.
The nine-piece collection was co-developed by IKEA and XBOX, with designers from each team working together on each piece, combining performance, comfort and storage solutions for new everyday victories.
“At IKEA, we believe play deserves a place in the home that is as thoughtful, comfortable and personal as any other everyday activity,” said Philip Dilé, product developer at IKEA. “With YXSTABY, we worked closely with XBOX to reimagine familiar shapes into playful, functional pieces that make it easier for people to bring their love of gaming into the spaces where they live. »

The XBOX controller is a recurring source of inspiration for the collection, determining the appearance and function of several pieces. The classic D-pad becomes both a comfortable cushion and a decorative tray in shiny stainless steel.
A mirrored display box features a controller on all sides, alongside figures and other collectibles worth displaying. The collection also includes a gaming lounge chair, monitor stand, TV stand on casters, side table on casters and laptop stand with storage and accessories.
But it’s the Thumbstick stool that takes the idea further. Developed from the original 3D design files for the XBOX Wireless Controller, provided by XBOX device designers, it seamlessly transforms an object moved by the thumb into an object designed to sit on. Even the grip texture has a new purpose: to help hold a person in place just as it prevents a thumb from slipping.

“We started with the Xbox controller, one of the most recognizable objects in gaming, and looked at how its familiar shapes could inspire the collection,” said Carl Ledbetter, head of design at XBOX Devices. “By translating elements like the D-pad and controller into functional furniture, we created pieces that celebrate Xbox design while feeling perfectly at home in everyday living spaces.”
