In the United States, Tyler Robinson, the alleged murderer of Charlie Kirk, will be well tried

A Utah judge ruled Tuesday, September 1, that the man suspected of murdering Charlie Kirk will stand trial, saying the prosecution had enough evidence against him.

Tyler Robinson, 23, faces the death penalty for fatally shooting Charlie Kirk in the neck during a rally on a college campus in September 2025. “In light of the record as well as the briefs filed by the parties, it is hereby ordered that the defendant, Tyler James Robinson, be committed for trial,” Judge Tony Graf said at the hearing.

This decision follows a preliminary hearing during which both parties presented their arguments regarding holding such a trial. The prosecution notably put forward messages in which the suspect confessed to the murder to friends. The defense essentially focused on casting doubt on the validity of the DNA expertise linking the young man to the murder weapon.

After the judge’s decision, Tyler Robinson pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, several American media reported.

The death of Charlie Kirk, a political earthquake

“Today’s decision, which comes almost a year after Charlie was taken from us, constitutes an important step in our family’s quest to do him justice,” reacted Erika Kirk, widow of the influencer, on X.

The murder of Charlie Kirk caused a political earthquake, because the 31-year-old influencer was the head of the largest youth organization of the American right, Turning Point, which he had put entirely at the service of Donald Trump during the last presidential campaign.
