iOS 27.2 brings Apple Books new design updates as iPhone Duo approaches

Apple Books is my favorite reading app and gets several welcome design updates in iOS 27.2. Here are the new features.
Here’s what changed in Apple Books with iOS 27.2 beta 3

Probably in anticipation that the iPhone Duo will prove to be a great device for reading, Apple is rolling out several design updates to its Books app soon.
iOS 27.2 beta 3 introduces the changes, all of which involve the reading experience itself.
When reading a book, iOS 27.2 brings the following design updates:
- Progress bars are now available to track your reading location
- The bottom right menu has a new three-dot icon and it has been redesigned into a standard Liquid Glass menu for consistency with other apps.
- Bookmark has been removed from this menu and is now at the top right as a standalone button.
- The “X” button has been moved to the upper left corner
- The “Back” button has been moved to the bottom left and is larger than before.

These are small updates, but in my usage they are certainly welcome improvements.
I never understood why bookmarks were hidden in the previous menu, so it’s great to see them more visible again. And I really like the new progress bars.
I hope that if the iPhone Duo is successful, Apple will see it as an opportunity to invest more in the Books app. Kindle dominates the e-reader market, but I’ve always preferred Apple’s app and ecosystem for e-books and audiobooks.
