Isaiah Washington is sharing his family’s grief with fans, more than a year after the death of his wife, Jenisa Washington.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, October 3, the former Grey’s Anatomy The star confirmed that Jenisa died over a year ago.

“Yes…the rumors are true. My dear wife of 29 years collapsed suddenly on May 31, 2025 and passed away on June 9, 2025,” Isaiah wrote. “It was a huge shock to me and our entire family. She died of a massive hemorrhagic stroke and never recovered.”

The actor shared a warning for fans: “Listen, y’all… some headaches aren’t just headaches or migraines, they can be much worse and a warning sign,” he said. “Get a brain scan if you can and take these headaches seriously.”

He added: “She’s been gone for 16 months now, but she left behind 3 incredibly amazing children to continue her legacy. I don’t know if this is an appropriate post because Jenisa Washington was extremely private, but I guess I just have to be chastised by her on the other side.”

Other Hollywood stars expressed their condolences in the comments. “It’s appropriate bro,” Michael Beach wrote. “We all need to pay more attention to what we are experiencing physically and mentally. Love to you and your family.”

Viola Davis wrote: “I’m so sorry, Isaiah. »

And Tichina Arnold commented: “You already know IW. Still love to you (and) your tribe. Asé.”

Jenisa was a fashion designer who met Isaiah at a dinner in Los Angeles and married him on Valentine’s Day 1996, according to Us Weekly. The couple welcomed three children: Tyme, Iman and Isaiah V.

Isaiah, who announced his retirement from acting in 2023 but has since appeared in films including James II, Running in the snowAnd Oscar Shawpraised his family life in a Fox News Digital interview in 2022.

“For me, being married and having kids changed a lot of my trajectory,” he said at the time. “That’s why I didn’t want to get married 25 years ago, but I’m glad I did because wife and kids really make you the best human being you can be.”
