JC Latham on Jordan Elliott incident: It was just an unfortunate situation
The Titans released defensive lineman Jordan Elliott on Tuesday after an incident at the team facility. An argument with teammate JC Latham last Thursday prompted Elliott to retrieve a gun from his car.
Latham discussed the incident Wednesday.
“It was just an unfortunate situation” said Latham, via Terry McCormick of titaninsider.com. “It was the heat of the moment, and shit happens. I don’t really have much to say about it. . . . There has never been any disagreement between the two of us. We were here this summer to get treatment. Before that, we hung out together whenever we were in the same city together. In fact, we had never had an argument before that.
“So I actually think mental health is extremely important, and this is just one of those situations where you just have to pray for a guy like that.”
Elliott was dealing with personal issues, according to McCormick, when he stormed out of the locker room and into the players’ garage. Teammate John Franklin-Myers followed Elliott and defused the situation, forcing Elliott to put the gun away, McCormick reports.
Latham was grateful to Franklin-Myers.
“I told him I appreciate it,” Latham said. “Apparently I was still on the field…so I just told him how much I appreciated him for that.”
