Kenan Thompson wants to be a gentle parent to Shane Gillis. THE Saturday evening live The elder statesman said at the Axios Media Trends Live summit that he was sad the Oct. 10 episode was “overshadowed” by Gillis’ shameful monologue, in which he called women “whores” for wearing activewear to the gym. “I know Shane, and I don’t necessarily know that he’s a mean person,” he said. “But if he came back, I’m sure we’d have a conversation like, ‘How do you think it went?’ Do you see what I mean? And: “What do you think you could have done?” Like a little child, you know? I would just sit him down and say, “So what do you think we could change there, buddy?” »
Thompson attempted to highlight the accomplishments of other participants on the show. “Grace (Reiter), one of our newest cast members, had a phenomenal show, and it’s sad because no one talks about it,” he said. “Even (musical guest) Rosalía gets overshadowed because we want to go back and forth on what’s offensive and what’s not.” Thompson maintains he doesn’t really have a say in whether Gillis returns as host SNL again, but “if he were to come back, then I think we should have some sort of real discussion where people’s actions don’t put us in common.” If Shane Gillis’ speech is a water park accident, it might be less about the wave pool at Action Park and more about “that time someone caught a brain-eating parasite at Disney World.” The fact is, Thompson doesn’t want the entire park to close its doors.
