Jennifer Lawrence to star in Zach Cregger’s animated sci-fi thriller “The Flood” from Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema. Cregger is set to write, produce and direct the film, which is scheduled for release on August 11, 2028.
Amblin Entertainment is producing alongside Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo Entertainment. Plot details and further casting remain under wraps.
Lawrence, an Oscar winner for 2012’s “Silver Linings Playbook,” brings serious prestige to Cregger’s latest genre piece. Probably best known for her appearance as the face of “The Hunger Games” franchise, Lawrence’s most recent film credits include “Die My Love” with Robert Pattinson, the Gene Stupnitsky romantic comedy “No Hard Feelings” and the A24 drama “Causeway.” One of his other upcoming projects includes the Martin Scorsese thriller “What Happens at Night.” She will also appear in the upcoming “Hunger Games” prequel, “Sunrise on the Reaping.”
“The Flood” sees Cregger reunite with Warner Bros. after the studio released its twisty 2025 horror mystery “Weapons.” A follow-up to his 2022 film “Barbarian,” the film was a commercial and critical success, grossing $270 million worldwide on a budget of less than $40 million. The film also won Amy Madigan the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as evil Aunt Gladys, who, in the film, robs a classroom full of children in the middle of the night, right under the noses of their maniacal teacher and overprotective parents.
“It was an absolute dream to collaborate with Mike, Pam and the entire Warner Bros./New Line team on ‘Weapons,’ and I couldn’t be happier to dive back in with them again. Jennifer is one of a kind and I’m beyond excited to see her in this role,” said Cregger.
