Joe Mixon reportedly not joining Seahawks after physical, RB missed 2025 season due to injury
After all, the defending Super Bowl champions aren’t adding veteran help to their running back team.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Seattle Seahawks “decided not to” sign Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he underwent a physical.
ESPN’s Brady Henderson reported that the Seahawks now plan to sign running back Robert Henry Jr. from the Washington Commanders’ practice squad.
Running back depth became an area of concern for the Seahawks early in the season. Most notably, rookie Jadarian Price will miss at least four games on IR with a chest injury.
“That’s exactly what happens in football. Unfortunately, injuries happen,” head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters. “He can’t control these things. He’s done everything we’ve asked of him since he got here. He’s had a great attitude. He’s been a great teammate. He’s got a great future. He’ll play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is… It’s just unfortunate.”
As for Zach Charbonnet, he has yet to play this season as he recovers from a torn ACL. However, Seattle opened its 21-day practice window on Thursday, suggesting he could be close to his return.
While both were out for Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers, Emanuel Wilson thrived in the primary running back role. He finished with 21 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown with three catches for 39 yards and another score.
Backup George Holani had seven carries for 18 yards.
Mixon played seven seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals and surpassed the 1,000 rushing yard mark four times, including when he was a Pro Bowler in 2021. He was also a Pro Bowler in 2024 with the Texans when he rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The 30-year-old missed the 2025 campaign with a foot injury. Houston released him in March.
