Judge rules Trump can’t fire court-appointed prosecutors
A federal judge ruled Thursday that the president Donald Trump does not have the authority to fire court-appointed U.S. attorneys, thereby rejecting a fundamental principle of the law. Asset the administration’s approach to top prosecutorial positions.
“The president cannot unilaterally fire a U.S. attorney appointed by the district court,” the U.S. district judge said. Stanley Bastian said in a court ruling. In doing so, Bastien said, “would upend the framework created by the Constitution and statutes, which together balance the President’s right of nomination and the Senate’s right of confirmation.”
