Katseye postpones sold-out United Center show
You know what’s not “Gnarly”?
Katseye, the uber-popular singing group — whose first big hit, “Gnarly,” was more or less a litany of things they really like (Teslas, fried chicken, etc.) — just postponed its highly anticipated sold-out concert at Chicago’s United Center on Thursday night.
A new date is expected soon.
The official reason, according to a release from the United Center, is that Katseye member Megan Skiendiel is ill. The post was posted several hours before the show started — which is better than what happened in Detroit on Tuesday, when Katseye rescheduled a show less than an hour before her scheduled performance, according to the Detroit Free Press. The band said via Instagram: “Unfortunately, Megan is unwell and cannot perform tonight, and we want to make sure she has the time she needs to rest and recover.”
Katseye, who formed in 2023 as part of the YouTube talent competition “The Debut: Dream Academy,” kicked off his first arena tour two weeks ago in Miami and has sold out most of his dates despite having yet to release a full album, only a series of EPs.
For a relatively new musical group, with a rabid fan base, Katseye has been operating at a deficit for much of the year: Last winter, Manon Bannerman announced she was taking personal time for mental health reasons. Last summer, Sophia Laforteza decided that she would also take a break for mental health reasons. Katseye started the year with six members and began her tour with four. Although they were scheduled to play Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields festival in August, they canceled when Skiendiel sprained an ankle.
The band also postponed its concert at the Target Center in Minneapolis on Saturday.
The United Center’s social media post Thursday afternoon read in part: “We are sorry to announce that tonight’s KATSEYE show at the United Center has been postponed due to Megan’s illness. Please do not attend as doors will not open for tonight’s show. …Please hold on to your tickets. They will be valid for the new date, which we will announce soon. VIP packages, including soundcheck upgrades, will also be held. If you cannot participate in the new On this date, refunds will be available to your original payment method.
Update: This story added the information that the Minneapolis concert has also been postponed.
