Kyle Shanahan shares positive injury updates for Mike Evans and the 49ers – NBC Sports Bay Area & California

Receiver Mike Evans, who left Sunday’s game with a rib injury, has a chance to return to action quickly, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday.

“This shouldn’t be long term,” Shanahan said in a conference call with Bay Area reporters. “We’ve been able to see how it goes throughout the week. The guys have been in this position before, so we’ll see how it goes.”

Evans, left tackle Trent Williams (neck stinger) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (quadriceps contusion) are all in similar situations and will be evaluated throughout the week, Shanahan added.

The 49ers will open the practice window for defensive end Mykel Williams, Shanahan said. Williams is back from a torn ACL he suffered last season. He is not eligible to return to action until Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Rookie defensive end Romello Height is expected to return this week after missing the game Sunday after undergoing surgery on his fractured hand.

Defensive linemen Nick Bosa (calf) and James Thompson Jr. (ankle) will not be available this week to face the Denver Broncos, Shanahan said.

Evans left the game and was transported to the locker room while suffering visible discomfort on Sunday. The injury was initially described as ribs/oblique. He clutched his right side following a no-contact play on an incomplete pass thrown in his direction.

The veteran caught three passes for 34 yards in the game. He played an important role in two touchdowns. He caught a short pass early in the game and headed to Deebo Samuel, who raced the final 80 yards for a touchdown.

Evans caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Brock Purdy in the back right corner of the end zone early in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead.

Williams suffered a stinger while blocking at the goal line in the third quarter on a play in which Christian McCaffrey scored on a 1-yard run.

Greenlaw injured his quadriceps early in the fourth quarter. He returned to combat but exited shortly after. Greenlaw recorded eight tackles while playing 62 snaps.

Shanahan did not mention three players who were on the injured list Sunday, suggesting they are fine.

Cornerbacks Deommodore Lenoir and Renardo Green were evaluated for concussions but were cleared to return to action. Rookie defensive tackle Gracen Halton left the game with cramps late in the third quarter. Linebacker Garret Wallow suffered a stinger but was cleared to return to the game.
