Denis Villeneuve is set to direct the new Bond film for Amazon MGM, with casting extraordinaire Nina Gold leading the audition process. No timetable has yet been given for when Amazon will officially name its next Bond, although it is expected to be before the end of the year.
Turner and Lowden have each had their moment in the Bond rumor mill, with Lowden recently coming to the forefront. Speculation reached a fever pitch when Gary Oldman, the Scottish actor’s “Slow Horses” co-star, appeared to suggest that Lowden had been cast. Lowden’s wife Saoirse Ronan later weighed in on the buzz, saying it was “not really a topic that was discussed in our house.”
British star Turner was a favorite of the spy earlier this year, with fans even fantasizing about the possibility of a Bond theme song by his wife Dua Lipa. While promoting the arthouse film “Rosebush Pruning” at the Berlin Film Festival in February, he was immediately asked about the rumors. “It’s very early to be asking that question,” Turner said with a Bond-esque smirk. “I’m not going to comment on that.”
