LeBron James didn’t mince his words on why he left the Lakers for the 76ers
LeBron James wants to win another NBA championship.
The Philadelphia 76ers held their annual media day on Monday with James wearing the blue uniform while speaking to the media. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer has made his intentions with the 76ers clear.
“For us to be great, we have to do things that just aren’t comfortable. We have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. That’s the best way to accelerate success. You have to fall in love with doing things that are uncomfortable.
“If we can do that, then we can be a great team. If we don’t, then we’ll be like, oh man, this was a great team on paper and we had a lot of great talent. And we lost in the second round. I don’t want to do that.
“I didn’t let my family lose in the second round,” James said.
James put every NBA team on alert when he informed the Lakers that he would not return for the 2026-27 season. The 41-year-old immediately became the summer’s top free agent and narrowed his picks to five teams.
Rumors were swirling about what James was looking for in what would likely be the final destination of his career. According to his agent Rich Paul, James was looking for total happiness in basketball in the twilight of his career.
Once James signed a two-year, $8 million contract with Philadelphia, it was confirmed that money was never a requirement.
And based on the four-time NBA champion’s remark at media day, it turns out that James’ total basketball happiness includes winning one more ring.
