Live: Harvard grad workers strike for second time this year
More than 200 protesters marched through Harvard Yard Tuesday afternoon and delivered a petition signed by more than 4,000 students to Massachusetts Hall, hours after Harvard graduate students began their second strike of the year.
Members of the Harvard Graduate Student Union-United Auto Workers gathered in front of the Science Center before marching through the courtyard, banging on plastic buckets and shouting slogans. Protesters gathered on the steps of Widener Library before marching around Massachusetts Hall, where union leaders delivered the petition to a university official.
HGSU President Denish K. Jaswal and Vice President Evan R. Lemire read the petition aloud before delivering it. Addressed to Harvard President Alan M. Garber in 1976 and to Provost John F. Manning in 1982, the letter urged university administrators to respond to the union’s demands.
