Several AEW wrestlers object to losing on TV
There are apparently some wrestlers in AEW who really don’t want to watch the lights on TV. A new behind-the-scenes report claims that some talent has actually given up on taking pins, with some wrestlers apparently happier being pushed into ROH than showing up on Dynamite just to lose.
Speaking at a Self Made session, Self Made Pro claimed it wasn’t just about one or two wrestlers having difficulty doing their job. According to the report, many people hang around AEW’s midcard and aren’t really excited about losing on TV every week.
“They’re not the only ones who don’t like to work. There are a lot of people in AEW who fill out your favorite midcard and don’t like losing on TV every week.”
Things are apparently getting even more interesting within the Don Callis family. Self Made Pro claimed that some members of the group hadn’t won a single match this year but still refused to take pins on television.
“There are people in the Don Callis family who haven’t won a game this year and who also refused to work and eat pins on television.”
No one has been named, so there’s no point playing detective with the Don Callis family list. But the report claims that this attitude also helped keep some wrestlers in Ring of Honor. Apparently, some would rather be pushed there than appear on Dynamite just to put someone else in place.
“There are guys in Ring of Honor mainly because they would rather be pushed on Ring of Honor than work on Dynamite.”
Self Made Pro also argued that it’s pretty easy for established main event players like Will Ospreay and Hangman Page to be team players. These guys already know that a loss isn’t going to suddenly knock them off the map.
“There’s no problem when it comes to being a team player when you’re Will Ospreay or Hangman Page, because they’re main players. They’ll be fine. People who are unemployed in AEW, or pouting about work – it’s easier to just focus on the team when your place is solidified.”
However, for someone fighting just to maintain their position, suffering another defeat can apparently be very different. Self Made Pro said some wrestlers naturally think about their own future before considering whether losing is a good angle.
“But when you’re worried about your own AEW stock, it becomes, ‘What’s happening to me?’ rather than saying, “Oh, that’s a good angle,” because the priority is yourself, because you don’t know what’s going to happen to you, and there are a lot of people like that.
This concern makes a little more sense with another recent report from Self Made Pro claiming that some lower card AEW contracts could simply expire rather than be renewed. If the wrestlers already don’t know where they stand, apparently some of them aren’t very interested in making the situation worse by becoming the person everyone beats up on TV.
