Live Updates: Man dies after falling from roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia
CiCi Nelson was waiting in line to ride the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia when a cart pulled up with an empty seat and other riders in hysterics.
Nelson told CNN that when the cart was coming back into the loading station, a man was “panicking, saying someone had fallen” and urging staff to call for help.
That’s when she noticed a seat was empty, with the safety bar loose, alongside another young passenger who appeared covered in blood and injured.
“Once I saw the girl and the loose safety bar, my stomach dropped and I was terrified,” Nelson said.
Emergency personnel quickly arrived on the scene and Nelson said she and others waiting in line were asked to leave the area.
“When we came back down from the ride, we could see the people in the cart after them, stuck in the air,” Nelson said.
If her phone hadn’t been late, Nelson said it could have been her on the same cart where the incident happened. She had reserved a Flash Pass for the Goliath roller coaster, but as she pulled it out to show the ride attendant, her phone delayed.
“If it hadn’t been for that extra minute my group had to wait for my Flash app to show my QR code to the transportation attendant, we would have gone,” Nelson said.
