Officials from the police, the Government Protective Service and the Homeland Security Agency held an emergency meeting Sunday at the agency’s counterterrorism center to discuss the situation.
After the meeting, Jacek Dobrzynski, Siemoniak’s spokesman, told reporters that authorities were “treating this issue very seriously.”
“Month after month, year after year, more and more threats and disturbing messages reach the police,” he said. “In this case, we are talking about a high probability that these threats could have been carried out.”
No further details about the alleged plot have been released and it remains unclear who might be behind it.
Poland is on the front line of Russia’s hybrid war against Ukraine’s backers in Europe and has suffered cyberattacks attributed to Moscow.
In recent weeks, Poland has also seen a wave of violent incidents in schools, including the death of a school guard in a knife attack.
