MongoDB CEO CJ Desai joins Metaplatforms as Director of Enterprise Platform and will report directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
Desai, who has been in his role at MongoDB for less than a year, will lead the social media giant’s new Meta Enterprise platform for businesses, according to a statement.
The new platform will initially prioritize a suite of tools including its new Muse agent, a sales agent, and a coding tool.
Meta plans to use “strengths that few other companies have: advanced models, best-in-class agents, large-scale infrastructure, and years of close collaboration with many companies,” Zuckerberg wrote in a statement.
The news sent MongoDB shares down 25%.
The MongoDB Board of Directors has named Dev Ittycheria as Interim President and CEO. Desai took over from Ittycheria, who served as CEO for 11 years, in November 2025. Desai was previously president of product and engineering at Cloud Flare.
Desai’s transition comes as Meta undergoes a massive shift, betting big on new AI products and services for its enterprise clients. Amid this transition, investors have demanded that the company’s massive AI investments in new infrastructure and tools be rewarded.
The social media giant’s push into the AI agent market with its AI personal assistant Muse has led to strong consumer demand, overtaking OpenAI’s ChatGPT as the leading free iOS app.
At the same time, a fierce battle is taking place in Washington and Silicon Valley after leading AI researchers and technology leaders, such as AnthropicDario Amodei called for a slowdown in development amid growing concerns about AI safety.
