Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy will leave Warner Bros. after the Paramount merger
Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy’s tenure at the helm of Warner Bros. is coming to an end.
Several sources have said Variety that De Luca and Abdy will not be part of David Ellison’s management team after the merger between Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. closes. Discovery. The historic $110 billion deal is expected to be finalized on October 6.
Paramount film executives Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein would oversee the two movie studios, which will each release 30 films a year, under terms of the deal. It is unclear whether De Luca and Abdy will stay for a transition period.
The news comes almost a year after WBD CEO and President David Zaslav announced that De Luca and Abdy’s contracts were being renewed at the studio, following the huge box office successes of “Sinners,” “A Minecraft Movie” and Ryan Coogler’s “Weapons.” Then Warner Bros. tied the all-time studio record with 11 Oscars from an industry-leading 30 nominations, including best picture for Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another.”
Ellison is keeping his new leadership structure close to the vest, and despite Cindy Holland’s departure as head of streaming for Paramount+, the company has yet to confirm that Casey Bloys will rise to the top streaming job in the new combined structure. However, it is known that Ellison tapped former Mattel CEO Ynon Kriez to become co-CEO, overseeing day-to-day operations and integration of the combined businesses.
Puck was the first to break the news of the leaders’ impending departure. Paramount and Warner Bros. did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
