Mike Locksley keeps showing up and hasn’t given up. He will have a weapon for Nebraska

Give Mike Locksley this: Mired in a dire situation, taking heavy fire from fans and media as his coaching career heads toward a fork in the road, he continues to show up and answer questions. While that may seem like a bare minimum, he wouldn’t be the first coach to hide when things go wrong. But he continued to show up for all his media responsibilities and answer questions to which no answer will satiate an impatient fan base, as he did again Thursday night on his weekly radio show.

After back-to-back losses that have put him where no coach wants to be, at the top of every college football coaches’ hot seat list, Locksley and his team head to Nebraska for a game they must win for him to have a chance at refreshing his seat.

“It’s a bit like we talked about on Sunday, where you have to redouble your efforts. As I told our team, it’s a bit like the stock market. When things aren’t going well, you don’t take your money out. You invest more,” he said. “We won at Lincoln a few years ago and I know our players understand it’s a great opportunity.”

A flash of light in an otherwise dark season: Standout running back DeJuan Williams, who hasn’t played since rushing three times for 116 yards and two touchdowns in the opener against Hampton, will be back Saturday.

“I expect him to play this weekend. It obviously depends on the reps he needs this week to show us he can play. But we’re still going to evaluate him once we get into the game. Having him back as a weapon is always welcome. We know the rushing attack needs to be more complementary. We don’t want to rely on the quarterbacks having to do a lot. So getting him healthy again, which also helps (Iverson Howard), who ended up missing the last half of last week. He’s back. We’re pretty happy to have at least some weapons.”
