Millbrook-Rolesville football fans removed from stadium; match suspended in overtime :: WRAL.com

The end of overtime for Friday night’s highly anticipated football game between Millbrook and Rolesville high schools has been postponed.

Around 9:20 p.m., with just over eight minutes remaining, the match was suspended and police asked spectators to leave the stadium.

Several teenagers were involved in an altercation. Raleigh police said the teens were pushing and shoving each other on school grounds.

There was a large crowd near the Wildcat Stadium concession stands and many people were seen fleeing the area before police evacuated the area.

The police allowed the match to resume without fans after a 25-minute delay. Only teams, media, officials and school and municipal staff were allowed to remain in the stadium. Nearly 6,000 people attended the match.

At the break, Rolesville led Millbrook 10-0. Over the next 8:16, the Wildcats tied the score at 10 and opted to take a knee with 27 seconds remaining rather than make one last play.

Before the game, Millbrook High School asked people to enter through the main gates and be screened by metal detectors.

The game was suspended a second time in overtime and officials said it would end at a later date. The score was tied at 10-10 in overtime when he was suspended again. Both schools declined to comment on the situation.
