Rocker slams reviews of the box office flop: “In my opinion, none of the reviews I’ve read describe this film adequately. They seem to miss the overall effect.”

Excavator It may have been a box office failure that divided critics, but it has an unlikely fan in Neil Young, who proclaimed the Tom Cruise-starring film “the best movie I’ve ever seen.”

Young shared his opinion on Excavator last week in the Letters/Artists/Bandstand section of his Neil Young archives Against the tide newspaper. While the film reached 53 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, Young criticized critics for missing the essence of Alejandro González Iñárrit’s film.

“In my opinion, none of the reviews I have read describe this film adequately. They seem to miss the overall effect and most of them are negative,” Young wrote. “This film lives in an art world. This is its best review. Don’t read any other reviews and forget about this one before you see Digger.”

Two weeks after its theatrical release, Excavator grossed approximately $38 million worldwide; Variety reported that the film would need to gross $350 million just to break even; as Young notes, Excavator was the last film released by Warner Bros. before its merger with Paramount. “As such, it is an excellent example of our times,” Young wrote.

As the film tends to become one of the biggest box office disasters in recent cinema history, some in Hollywood, including Jane Fonda, Guillermo Del Toro and Cruise’s Days of Thunder 2 co-star Anne Hathaway – have thrown their support behind the film, but Young may be Excavatorthe greatest champion.

“This is today’s world of politics and commercial overload. A must-see for those frustrated by the lack of genuine engagement present in most, if not all, of today’s offerings,” Young continued. “Excavator is not to be missed. »
