“NFL: LA Rams’ Alaric Jackson banned for hitting opponent while kicker Harrison Mevis released”.
The consequences of the Los Angeles Rams’ loss to the Buffalo Bills were felt as offensive lineman Alaric Jackson was suspended for hitting an opponent while kicker Harrison Mevis was released.
Jackson was handed a two-game suspension by the NFL after punching Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb following Monday’s 37-34 overtime loss.
Chubb was talking to players from both teams near midfield when Jackson approached him and punched him in the jaw.
“It’s just emotions, you know what I mean? An emotional game, it was a close game,” Chubb said.
Jackson is now expected to miss the Rams’ next two games against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders.
Meanwhile, the Rams decided to get rid of Mevis and sign another kicker, Blake Grupe, from the New York Jets practice squad.
Mevis missed a field goal in regulation and had another attempt blocked in overtime against the Bills, which Rams head coach Sean McVay said “cost us the game.”
“The kicking game, especially with our PAT and basket, isn’t even good enough,” McVay said.
Mevis, 24, has made five of his last nine field goal attempts, including just one of his last four in the last two games.
Grupe, 27, converted 81.9 percent of his field goals and 98 percent of his extra point attempts in 50 NFL games with the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts.
